Reconstruction Date

Medieval castle as part of Afonso III of Portugal's reorganization of the borders to the east and west of Chaves. The village received a charter on June 9, 1273 making it the head of Terras de Barroso, and laying out expectations of a castle being built. It is unclear if construction began or was continued under Dinis I of Portugal. Inscription marks the end of construction in 1331 .
